"Adventures in Gardening" is hosted by the Hendricks County Master Gardeners each Fall to give area gardeners a chance to learn more about the nation's number one pastime.

Featured Speaker: Doug Tallamy

Dr. Doug Tallamy is Professor and Chair of Entemology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware. He is the author of "Bringing Nature Home: How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens" as well as numeous research papers on insect behavior and ecology. Doug presented an overview of the effect of non-native plants in landscaping on the biodiversity of insect herbivores and their ecological dependents. He followed this up with a practical vision and recommendations for native plant use in residential landscapes to help preserve habitats. Speaker: Ellen Jacquart

Ellen is INPAWS' leader for Invasive Plant Education, and provided very practical guidance on the threats posed by invasive plants and on management tools for fighting them.

Besides being past president of the Hendricks County Master Gardeners, Eloiza Garza is secretary of the Indiana State Beekeepers Association and is an experienced beekeeper. She spoke on the importance of pollinators in the environment and efforts to support them by the Pollinator Society.
